Hi friends,
It's been a while since I've been able to write to you.
I'm sure you have all been busy with the holidays.
Today, I want to talk to you about meditation. It has literally changed my life, and has helped to keep me sane.
With all the responsibilities we have, and the short hours in a day; it helps keep you centered, and focused on what is important. It is easy to become overwhelmed with all the daily things we have to do, not to mention all the unexpected errands, and situations that pop up. Whether you have 5 minutes or 30, meditation helps to clear your mind and rejuvenate you. We can all feel a little guilty taking some time for ourselves, but it is important to do. We can only help others when we are well ourselves.
1. Pick a quiet place, grab a candle and a few pillows. Sit Indian style with the pillows behind your back for support.
Now you can do this anywhere, you do not need to be at home, and you do not need a candle or pillows. I do this whenever I start to feel overwhelmed or anxious. Sometimes I even do it while waiting at the Dr.'s office ect...
2. If you are somewhere where you can stretch, do some light stretching before you sit down. It Helps to get you in the right mind set.
3. Next, start by taking deep breaths in through you nose counting to five, then out through your mouth counting to five. Your belly should raise when you breath in, and flatten as you breath out.
Try to concentrate on your breaths, when you catch yourself in thought again, just bring your thoughts back to your breath.
4. Remember you don't have to be perfect at this, it takes time to get good at clearing your mind and enjoying the peace it brings. Start with 5 or 10 minutes then work up to 15 to 30. Find whats best for you.
Also a timer on your phone or just a kitchen timer is very handy.
Let me know how it goes! I promise if you start dedicating a little time everyday, you will love the peace and calmness it brings to your everyday life. I started noticing all the small things in life that I took for granted. It also helped me realize what is important. I don't sweat the small stuff as much, and I definitely feel happier.
Have a great weekend!
With Love,
Whitney
